Missionary-ish: Prayer Time at Walmart (3-minute read)

Happy new year, !

The Snapshot:

  • Reagan prayed for several women at Walmart and lived to tell about it.

  • We have reached 53% of our monthly giving goal.  Our next goal is to reach 75% by March 31st.

  • We want to hear an update from you and ways we can be praying for you!

  The Story:

Remember when we asked for prayer about our prayer and evangelism time at Walmart a few weeks ago?  Here's how it went down...

Go & Tell

As I (Reagan) sat in my parked car and contemplated what I was about to do, I felt like my heart was going to beat out of my chest.  But God seemed to keep bringing Joshua 1:9 to my mind:  "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."  I read the verse over and over.  I prayed.  I finally got out, walked around for a little while to kill some time and get my heartbeat back to normal... and then started the "task".As women approached the entrance to Walmart, I did my best to casually intercept them.  "Hi, my name is Reagan, and I'm just out here praying for people today.  I was wondering if I could pray for you." Most of them looked surprised and a little weirded out.  As expected.  Probably 60-70% said "no" (most were nice; the hurried ones weren't).  But at least 30-40% were receptive.  Those who seemed to be believers were really happy to stop and share their prayer requests, and a couple of them even prayed for me! One woman and I talked for awhile about some of her current struggles with addiction.  How she knew she had been drifting away from God.  The conversation couldn't have lasted longer than 10 minutes, but we covered a lot of ground in our shared gratitude for God's grace over our failures and how essential a community of believers is for us to grow in our faith.I met another woman who had two teenage kids with her.  She hesitated to share, at first.  Suspicious of this rando girl asking strange questions.  But then she asked if I could pray for her son's health, since he had just had surgery.  When I finished, she had tears in her eyes.I didn't get to share the Gospel with anyone (whether because they said "no" to prayer, they were already Christians, or they had to go once we were done praying... or because I chickened out).  But I definitely want to try again and see what happens.  And I want to take others with me!  (That means you, .)  Will you join me?

All in all, I'm happy to report that:

  1. I survived.

  2. Once I got rejected enough times, I kind of quit caring.

  3. Despite the initial freak out, God gave me more and more joy and peace as time went on.

  4. I don't know whether any of those interactions had a profound effect on anyone else's faith journey.  I pray God has used each of them for their good and His glory.

  5. But I do know that time was really good practice for me in learning how to share about Jesus, pray for strangers, and trust God in really uncomfortable situations.

  6. I don't really know what I'm doing.  But God is good.

Thank you so much again for your prayers!Have you been wondering how you can share the story of Jesus with someone in your life?  Check out this video.Have you gotten to try out the "Three Circles" approach?  We want to hear how it went! Money in the Bank Our support is continuing to grow, praise God!  Our next goal is to reach 75% of our monthly giving by March 31st, 2019.  Like we have said before, we would love to have as many possible be a part of what we are doing, whether they can give 1 penny or $100.  Our goal is to reach 200 monthly partners.  Right now, we have 34.
